I was trying to kill a little time waiting for Liz as she shopped at a Shoppers so I walked into a Rogers store. I have been seeing tons of those posters telling me to join the revolution and I would be lying if I said it didn’t pique my curiosity. When the guy at the store asked if there is anything he could help me with I said “I know I cant touch one yet but I’m interested in the HTC Dream”. Well, the guy then says “Well, I cant sell you one today but hold on, I may have something for you to play with”. Helz ya! He opened a box, tossed in a SIM they use for demo models and booted that bad boy up! So ya, I totally got to play with a Rogers Android before most, it was a good day! So ya, conveniently my contract is ending later this month so I should have no problem getting the $200. Long story short I should be moving to the Android world in the next few days

1:30 in the morning and I’m fighting with aspect ratios… GRRRRR, why is it that there is no such thing as a quality product anymore these days!
A wrote a while back about my new camera, you can read that article here. It’s a Samsung SC-MX20 and until today I was relatively happy with it except that all my videos were looking squished when I tape in 16×9. I decided today was going to be the day I figure this thing out so I shoot a round candle in both 16:9 and 4:3 modes. Well shit, wouldn’t you know they both look squished, really easy to see when your subject is round. Okay, so no matter how you shoot with this thing it will look wrong once its on the PC, great. I looked at the file properties and both modes produced a video that was 720×480. Weird, so basically the camera will always shoot in that resolution no matter what. Okay then, so whats the right 16:9 format resolution, a quick google answered that with 720×405. So now I have to convert all my videos to 720×405 and they finally look perfect! I have figured out a pretty clean way to convert them over and they don’t loose any video quality and I can set batch encodes witch is nice cause if I gotta be annoyed i only wanna be annoyed for lots a files only once…lol. I’ll post at a later date about my solution in OSX.
So do I still like the camera, yup, for some reason I do. I hate that this issue is there cause I don’t know many others that have the patience and the overall understanding of aspect ratio’s and resolution so there are going to be lots of people posting squished videos to youtube. Oh well, firmware update maybe?

Here I am once again asking myself that ago old question, to Mac or to PC? So it’s been about 2 years now since I bought my MacBook and I must say I really do love it. I would no doubt buy a Mac if they were even close to the price of a PC but wow, there still like twice the price, WTF! Now with the beauty that is Windows 7 on the way I think I could be quite satisfied with a Dell. I’m really liking Dell’s current Studio line too. A month ago my mind was all but made up and I was going to get a Dell XPS 16 but now that I have spent a solid day reading reviews and watching movies about the beauty that is the new Mac notebook lineup I’m really not so sure anymore. If I do go Mac I don’t think I would fork over the cash to go top of the line, it would be either the bottom end MacBook Pro or the top of the line MacBook. Anyone got an opinion on the topic? I need some help people, I probably wont buy for a few more months at least but I wanna start the decision process early
